From babysitting to finance and HR, and now leading a procurement team—Amira Selimović proves that a career path doesn’t have to be linear to be successful. Today, as Team Lead in procurement at StorsenDigital, she blends analytical thinking, emotional intelligence, and agile leadership to drive digital procurement forward.
How Amira Selimović Found Her Place in Procurement
“I started working at 16 as a babysitter and dreamed of becoming a teacher,” says Amira Selimović. She initially enrolled in German Studies but gradually transitioned into finance and administration through various student jobs. Each role shaped her—teaching her about people, numbers, and systems.
It wasn’t until she discovered procurement that everything clicked. “In procurement, for the first time, I felt like I could combine everything I’ve learned. It made sense—for me and the team.”
From Finance to a Flexible Digital Culture
Her shift from corporate finance to a digital environment at StorsenDigital brought a welcome contrast. “Finance is very structured,” she says. “At StorsenDigital, I found creative freedom. What surprised me most was how much people and their efforts are truly valued.”
This cultural shift empowered Amira Selimović to embrace leadership with authenticity—balancing operational goals with people-first values.
Key Procurement Skills That Drive Impact
As a procurement leader, Amira Selimović draws from both her accounting and HR background. “Accounting taught me about cost structures; HR taught me how to understand people. Both are critical in procurement.”
She emphasizes the following key traits:
- Analytical skills for interpreting data
- Digital literacy for working with new tools
- Negotiation abilities for vendor and stakeholder collaboration
- Agility to stay ahead in a fast-changing digital world
Building a Culture of Trust and Flexibility
Remote leadership is not without challenges, but Amira Selimović sees it as an opportunity. “We keep structure through clear responsibilities and regular check-ins, but we also give people the freedom to work in their own way. Trust and accountability are essential.”
She believes a team thrives when communication is open and people feel seen and heard.
Support, Mentorship, and Growth
Her growth into a leadership role was not a solo journey. “I was given the chance to learn and take responsibility. My colleagues, like Anisa Seferović and Mirela Šehović, guided and supported me when I needed it most.”
This environment gave Amira Selimović the confidence to step outside her comfort zone—and thrive.
Navigating International Markets with Agility
Working across markets like Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Bulgaria, and Montenegro taught her how to adapt quickly. “Every country has its own way of doing business. Understanding those nuances helps me work more effectively with suppliers and clients.”
This global experience enhances her procurement work every day, especially in vendor relationships and negotiations.
Leading With Empathy and Purpose
When asked about her typical day, Amira Selimović says: “As a Team Lead, my focus is on people. I try to build trust and maintain open relationships. Behind every success is a person who believes in what they’re doing.”
It’s a leadership style rooted in empathy and clarity—and it’s why she’s respected by both her team and peers.
A Message to Newcomers in Procurement
For those just starting out in procurement or at StorsenDigital, Amira Selimović offers this advice: “Be curious. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. If you show initiative, people here will help.”
Her message is simple but powerful: growth comes from curiosity and courage.
Professional Balance and Personal Fulfillment
Looking back, Amira Selimović values the harmony she’s found in her role. “What matters most is that I can grow while still being myself. I’ve found balance, security, and confidence here. And I’ve learned that it’s possible to have both a great job and a good life—if you’re in the right environment.”
