Redefining Global Connectivity With Vince Vissers and Firsty

In today’s interconnected world, reliable mobile connectivity is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. Firsty CEO Vince Vissers is leading the charge to make global connectivity simple and accessible for everyone.

A systems and industrial engineer who spent four years as a product owner at Adyen, Vissers has the expertise to navigate the complexities of telecom technology. He aims to make the way we connect while traveling more effective than ever.

A Vision Born From Frustration

The idea for Firsty emerged from Vissers’ personal experiences while traveling.

“For years, whenever I traveled to a new country, I would inevitably be met with a painfully high roaming bill, find myself forced to waste time searching for the best possible local SIM card (or eSIM), or end up grappling with an unclear, quick-to-expire data package,” he recalls.

As a result of this frequent struggle, he identified a significant gap in the telecom market, which he describes as being “a bit dusty” and lacking in innovation. Together with co-founder Gauthier, Vissers saw a chance to transform the industry.

“After all, how is it possible that consumers could have such persistent difficulties with their mobile networks, while IoT solutions, such as payment terminals, are easily connected across the globe?” Vince continues. “So that became our priority: to make sure telecoms consumers are no longer restricted to a single network provider.”

The Firsty app is something unseen so far. Its clients can stay connected through automatic provider switching, and there’s no need for them to hunt for Wi-Fi or make data purchases. This allows them to travel freely and always be able to improve their data speed, send an instant message, or check Google Maps.

Navigating Challenges

It was a great but hard-to-achieve idea that needed much time and resources to come to life.

“Our biggest challenge was probably trying to develop a consistent solution that would work across the globe. Just like platforms like Uber, we want our users to have the exact same experience wherever they are,” starts Vince.

This was a tough nut to crack because the telecom industry is subject to constant changes globally. Companies and their restrictions don’t stay the same.

“Luckily, by tackling all the complexity in-house and by collaborating closely with local providers, we were able to develop a solution that works consistently all over the world without the user actually changing anything in the app.”

Obviously, it’s safe to say that at Firsty, customers come first.

Milestones and Achievements

Expectedly, Vince’s biggest achievement in his eyes is tied to Firsty.

“The launch of Firsty Free was a real high moment for me. This is a service that provides everyone with free access to essential services like WhatsApp, email, and Google Maps,” shares Vince.

“By launching this, we are the first provider on the globe to actually democratize data, allowing everyone to feel safe and connected, wherever they are. There’s simply no need for anyone to be unable to contact their friends and family anymore. I’m proud of that,” he concludes.

Looking to the Future

Vissers is focused on enhancing the user experience as Firsty expands its offerings.

“We want to keep improving our product to really become a one-stop-shop for connectivity across the globe,” he states. The aim is to eliminate any worries about staying connected, no matter where users find themselves.

Right now, Firsty is active in 120 countries, and Vissers is adamant about increasing its global reach. “We’re on a mission to be available everywhere in the world very soon!” Vince declares.

Then he adds, “No payment information is required, and users are able to maintain access to Firsty’s totally secure, basic internet connection by watching one quick 30-second advert every hour (much like popular freemium apps such as Spotify). That means users can access essential apps—including Google Maps, WhatsApp, iMessage, and even Uber—wherever they are in the world, whether they’re at home or traveling.”

Guidance for Budding Entrepreneurs

When asked what his advice is for budding entrepreneurs, Vince says, “Don’t start with the product; start with the customer. If you keep talking to the customer to truly solve a problem, then your product will form itself.”

This is precisely the customer-centric approach that’s at the heart of Firsty. This amazing app addresses real needs rather than chasing fleeting trends.

Conclusion

Despite the enriching experience of traveling, we have all encountered absurd situations, such as being unable to connect via a mobile device. This is what Firsty avoids while providing incomparable innovation and replacing traditional telecom solutions that are cumbersome and expensive for travelers.

With Vince Vissers at the helm, the company is not just redefining how we connect while traveling; it’s ensuring that everyone has access to essential services without the fear of hidden costs.
